What a commercial logo mat actually is
A commercial logo mat is a purpose-built entrance mat that carries your brand mark and is engineered to survive constant foot traffic, water, grit and cleaning cycles. It is not a printed household doormat. The pile has to hold its colour and structure after tens of thousands of footsteps, and the backing has to stay flat on the floor instead of curling into a trip hazard.
For most South African businesses the mat does three jobs at once: it presents the brand at the first point of contact, it captures dirt and moisture before they reach the interior floor, and it reduces slip risk in the doorway during the rainy season.
How commercial logo mats are priced
Logo mats are priced by surface area, not by unit. Multiply width by height in metres to get the square metres, then multiply by the rate. Our published rate for custom logo mats is R1,500 per square metre, and pet photo mats are R1,400 per square metre. Because the rate is published, you can calculate the price of any size yourself before you contact anyone.
| Mat size (width × height) | Area | Price at R1,500/m² |
|---|---|---|
| 900 × 600 mm | 0.54 m² | R810 |
| 1200 × 800 mm | 0.96 m² | R1,440 |
| 1400 × 1000 mm | 1.40 m² | R2,100 |
| 2000 × 1500 mm | 3.00 m² | R4,500 |
Why published pricing matters
Much of the local trade quotes only on request, which adds one to three working days to every enquiry and makes it impossible to compare suppliers on equal terms. Ask for a square-metre rate in writing before you compare quotes.
The specification that separates commercial from domestic
- 100% nitrile rubber backing — stays flexible, resists oils, will not curl, crack or yellow under South African UV exposure.
- High-twist nylon pile — the twist holds the yarn upright so the mat does not flatten into a shiny patch in the traffic line.
- High-footfall rating — specified for busy commercial entrances rather than occasional domestic use.
- UV-stable, washable construction — the logo colours survive both sunlight in the doorway and repeated industrial washing.
- Bevelled edging — a tapered perimeter so trolleys and wheelchairs roll over the mat and nobody catches a toe.
Choosing the right size
Measure the doorway opening in millimetres and work with the walkway, not just the door. As a practical rule, a visitor should take at least two full steps on the mat before leaving it, which means 1200 × 800 mm is the realistic minimum for a single commercial door and 2000 × 1500 mm or larger suits a double-door reception or a mall entrance.
Always specify in millimetres. Mixed units are the most common cause of a mat arriving at the wrong size, so a written 1400 × 1000 mm is safer than "about one and a half metres".
Artwork, proofs and lead time
You do not need a professional design file to order. Upload any usable version of your logo — a JPEG, a PNG, a PDF or even a clear photograph of signage — and our studio redraws it to vector at no charge. You approve a digital proof that shows the logo on the exact mat dimensions before anything is manufactured. Production runs 7-10 working days after that approval, followed by delivery.
Questions worth asking any supplier
- Do you manufacture the mat yourself, or resell someone else’s product?
- What is your rate per square metre, in writing?
- What is the backing material, and is it nitrile or PVC?
- Is there a minimum order quantity?
- Is vector redrawing of my logo included or charged extra?
- Do I see a proof before production starts?
- What is the production lead time, and is delivery included?
